We've just got rid of a pair of Mormons from the door...imagine disturbing someone when the World Cup is on!? I mean, they must expect to get even shorter thrift than usual! Anyway it reminded me of this nutcase standing outside one of the central cinemas protesting about the Da Vinci Code. I respect his right to stand there and protest, but it's very difficult to get any kid of coherent, sensible argument from this kind of guy. There was a similar guy who walked around the university area carrying a sandwich board with all sorts of 'you'll burn in hell' type slogans. I wonder if he's still there?! Anyone watch Father Ted? Does this guy not make you think of Ted and Dougal standing outside the Craggy Island cinema going "down with this sort of thing!"?

I also respect people's view on matters but I dont quite understand why the protests against the book/movie " da vinci code ", it is "fiction" as the author clearly stated so ,why?

not only is it fiction but all these world wide protests by fundamentalist Christians are only driving the book and ticket sales higher. People are naturally curious and want to know "what all the fuss is about". Goodness knows that it could have been a flop if it hadn't been protested so much. I'm not against people questioning the validity of the purported facts in the book but anyone with any common sense knows that if you tell a kid that they shouldn't do something that they'll at least think about trying it.
couldn't agree more. if it hadn't been for all the hype and protest, i probably wouldn't have read the book - after all a novel on symbolism and religion would hardly be my first choice. as dan brown says, it is a work of fiction but the reaction against it by the catholic church is so vehement that it does make you wonder how much they are hiding. and if jesus and mary magdalene did have a child, who cares!?
The people in your photo are making blatant use of the book to promote the 'Alpha course' - the anglican church's major recruitment activity, billed as being somewhere you can explore the 'meaning of life'.
