Scottish Wedding Guests

At any wedding in Scotland, the vast majority of the male guests will wear the traditional Scottish attire of the kilt with everything that goes with it. Wearing the kilt has definitely become much more popular over the last 20 years or so, and indeed it is often worn informally as well when attending international football or rugby matches too. I ordered a kilt not so long ago and it's in the process of being made. the whole outfit is going to cost me a little under £1000, but it will last pretty much my whole life and it will certainly get used. Most visitors to Scotland like seeing men walking around in kilts, and there is always the temptation to know if the wearer is a true Scotsman or not!

it varies from person to person. some wear underwear, some don't. the general rule seems to be that if it's your own kilt, you're more likely to hang free than if you're wearing a rental one! i know they get clenaed after each rental, but you still don't know who has worn it before!

I loves me a man in a kilt. Meeeeow! I once saw a small part of a tv show with men in kilts, beards and long hair. they were fighting with axes claidheamh mor and sheilds. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Hmm... question for you. Can women with a Scottish mother but a non-Scottish father wear the tartan of her mother's clan?

Yeah, you're entitled to wear the tartan of the clan of any of your grandparents, both maternal and paternal. So, I can wear Fraser (my surname), Campbell (my mother's maiden name), Farquhar and McNeill (my grandmothers' maiden names).

Never expect kilt to be that expensive...!

That's wonderful to know, Grant! Thank you from a MacLeod and Milne.
I just found out that the surname 'Syme'(19th c. ancestors) belongs to the Fraser clan.
