DP Theme Day: Taxis

Taxis is the theme for October, and Edinburgh Daily Photo is happy to be among the growing band of DP blogs who come together on the 1st of each month to share a particular theme. I've posted Edinburgh taxis before because they're pretty colourful and fun. Most cabs are painted with adverts for something or other, but they're obviously expensive to paint or re-paint as I still see a cab going around painted out in an advert for EU Jet, an airline that went bust about 18 months ago!

Go and see what cabs are like in other parts of the world.

That is very observent of you and thanks for pointing it out. When you visit another city, you often don't know these things. I personally prefer the traditional non-advert versions of the taxi.

Great taxi Grant.. very orange, very scottish.. the only orange one I've seen today, although plenty do have advertising on them like yours, yours is perhaps the most obvious advertsing!

the advertising on edinburgh cabs is certainly pretty obvious. for eric, there is a bit of a traditional black cab in the background for those who prefer the non-colourful variety!

as far as i'm concerned it's very clever to use them for advertising - everybody sees them and they're everywhere.

We have those similar cabs in Singapore too, they are imported and called "London Cabs". They are really really roomy!

You are right, Grant. You're taxis ARE really cute. Here in Settle the busses are covered by these adverts. I think they are actually thin plastic "cling" decals that are somehow applied (like the decals on the tails of airplanes). Sometimes they cover all the bus windows (they are see-through from the inside), as well as the body. What brand of car is the taxi here? It's so cute.

What a great shot! Absolutely hilarious story, I love the idea of advertising for something that no longer exists, and the bright orange cab makes for a colourful picture. One of the very best I've seen today!

It's good to have taxis in colors that are easy to spot on dark nights. I love your tangerine taxi. I wonder if the driver wears a speedo?

I love UK cabs - so roomy inside. Don't really mind what's on the outside!
