Edinburgh Cuisine

Edinburgh does have many fine restaurants which showcase some of the best of Scottish produce and cooking. However, our fish 'n' chip shops have a tendency to deep-fry in batter anything that sits still long enough. One "delight" you may come across in Edinburgh is the deep-fried mars bar...yes, it is as disgusting as it sounds! Bizarrely enough, they are usually found in chippies owned by 2nd or 3rd generation Italian-Scots!

could go some way to explaining why Scotland has one of the highest rates of heart problems!

Even so, I ate one once and it was fine at first, actually quite good, but then as you start to eat into it and the oil starts running down the side of your mouth, you realise you've made a mistake.

thanks for the shot.

I read a story about a chippie in Glasgow doing a new special called a "stonner" - a deep-friend doner kebab! They had to put a health warning in the shop warning customers not too eat too many of them!

I got addicted to Mars Bars when I was a student in Scotland. Learned to love haggis too, but either of them deep-fried in batter is horrid!
