Hungry?

I'm back! It's been quite a weekend and getting back to work on Monday was a bit of an anti-climax. Anyway, despite having just polished off a lovely home-made Thai green curry, I felt in the mood to share some traditional Scottish food with you. Here we have haggis, neeps and tatties...Scotland's national dish! Enjoy!

it looks yummy...though I think there is some mashed potato, and burger patties, what is the yellowish thing?

Don't know about the haggis...but the neeps and tatties look great!

lisi, there are no burgers on that plate. the lovely brown stuff in the middle is haggis, which as every good Scot knows, the haggis is a wee furry animal with one leg shorter than the other that runs in circles around the hills. On the left is champit tatties (or mashed potato) and the yellow stuff is neeps (turnip or swede depending on what you want to call it.)

When I was in Scotland a few years ago, we went to a Scottish Caleigh and had Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties! I liked it. Oh how I miss Scotland!

Now that looks a bit like our southern soul food, the haggis resembling chitterlings. Is it delicious immediately to one and all or is it an acquired taste?

Most people that taste it enjoy it, especially if they don't know what it's made of. If they know beforehand, they can be a bit hesitant to try it.

Hello Grant,

I remember I tasted haggis when I went to Edinburgh about 10 years ago. I did not understand what I was eating. Only one year after my trip did I realize what I had eaten but I had enjoyed the food.

It's an educatoin - as a sassenach I a thought 'bashed neeps and tatties' were mashed together. Duh.

Certainly a change from Thai green curry the night before. I guess that's called globalisation. The plate looks nice but also huge! So it's not only at MacDonald's that you can supersize your meal!?

I can almost smell it over here!
