John Knox House

In response to a recent request, this is the house of John Knox on the Canongate, part of the Royal Mile. John Knox was the leader of the protestant reformation in the 16th century and primarily responsible for moving the Church of Scotland down a very traditional, Calvinist path. He was a sworn enemy of Mary, Queen of Scots, one of the tragic figures of Scottish history.

Many blame John Knox for the Scottish propensity for "cawin' the feet frae braggarts" rather than praising achievements.

Have they turned the house into a museum or tourist attraction?

A reminder of an Edinburgh gone by, real history in the buildings.

Yeah, Bill, old Knox is responsible for a lot of the worst traits of the Scottish character.

Cawin' the feet frae braggarts - what the heck does that mean?

Inside were some documents, and some furnitures, ordinary museum stuff, at least in 1990, but I so love the architecture and the preservation - I haven't travelled much, but Edinburgh has got to be one of the most picturesque and well-preserved cities in the world.... I reserve my comments about the Parliament, except to say, at least maybe good deeds will be done inside it.
